Provide service and maintenance for all aspects of mechanical operations and heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration equipment (especially large commercial and specialty systems) so as to support the University's educational mission.

Understand basic chemistry, electrical basics and control systems, steam and water heating fundamentals, and HVAC & refrigeration basic cycles and principles
Welding and/or soldering skills; and ability to use tools, meters, gauges and equipment correctly and safely
Ability to read, understand, and troubleshoot schematic diagrams, and troubleshoot and repair problems of varied types
Knowledge of procedures for safe refrigerant and chemical handling
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations pertaining to work performed
Working knowledge of HVAC and associated systems employing computer-based monitoring and control devices
Refrigerant Handling Certification (Universal preferred) upon hire
Journeyman Mechanical License upon hire
Must have a valid Virginia driver’s license and meets the standards for the University’s insurance carrier upon hire
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
H.S. Diploma or GED required
Technical training in mechanical work evidenced by obtaining or ability to obtain Journeyman's Mechanical License (typically 3 years of Technical Trade School) required
4-7 years’ progressively responsible mechanical experience directly related to HVAC systems to include commercial HVAC service of chillers and refrigeration required
WORK HOURS:
Full-time, non-exempt position
Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; 8 hours a day; 40 hours per week; flexibility required.
All Facilities employees are designated as essential personnel and are subject to work outside the normal work schedule on an emergency basis and are also subject to planned overtime work as required by the immediate supervisor.
SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 6 (Hiring Range $22.67 to $30.04 per hour)
