We are seeking a skilled HVAC Maintenance Technician to ensure the comfort and safety of our community by maintaining critical climate systems in public facilities, including our library, historic courthouse, and administrative buildings. Responsible for performing journeyman-level repair, maintenance, and installation of commercial HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) equipment and systems. Masters Level Technicians perform and/or assist other technicians in diagnosing and repairing HVAC equipment with complex, unusual and/or very difficult problems; and performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Education and Experience:
Education equivalent to a high school diploma supplemented with 5 years HVAC experience, apprentice-level vocational training program or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Special Qualifications:
Must possess satisfactory results of a criminal history background check. Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license. Must possess and maintain a Universal Refrigerant Recovery License. Must possess and maintain a journeyman’s or masters level HVAC license through the Virginia Department of Professional Occupation and Regulation (DPOR).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as very heavy. Must be able to lift, stoop, bend, crawl, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and from ladders and scaffolds in hot and cold temperatures. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to life, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. May work on rough or uneven surfaces, and confined spaces. May be required to work afterhours, weekends and on call. Must be able to perceive and discriminate depths, odors, and colors.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Essential functions are regularly performed in and around various county buildings. Tasks may risk exposure to chemicals, odors, machinery, wetness, dust, fumes, dirt, vibrations, electricity, driving and confined spaces.
