Position Overview:
NexGen Contracting is seeking a dedicated and analytical Project Cost Controls Specialist to join our Concrete Division. This role is pivotal in providing detailed cost analysis, budgeting, and financial forecasting for concrete construction projects. The Cost Controls Specialist will be responsible for implementing corporate cost control measures, tracking project expenses, providing cost reports, and assisting project teams in managing project budgets. This position requires a proactive individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is eager to take on challenges, and is committed to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement project cost control systems and procedures to track budget, expenditures, and forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work closely with project managers and the finance department to ensure accurate financial reporting and cost analysis.
  • Prepare detailed cost reports and financial forecasts, identifying potential overruns and savings opportunities.
  • Collaborate with procurement and project teams to manage and negotiate contracts, ensuring cost-effective purchasing strategies.
  • Analyze project financial performance and provide recommendations to improve profitability and efficiency.
  • Conduct risk analysis to assess potential impacts on project costs and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Support project teams in understanding the financial aspects of projects, including cost variances and budget constraints.
  • Participate in project review meetings, providing cost control insights and updates.

 

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in project cost controls, preferably within the construction industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
  • Strong proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Familiarity with construction project management software such as Procore, CMiC, Timberline, or similar platforms is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex financial information in an understandable manner.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (up to 10%) for project meetings and site visits, as required.

While performing the duties of this position, the team member is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and arms, reach, and talk or hear.  They are regularly required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.  Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs, and occasionally lift or move up to 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities include accurate near and distant vision.

 

Frequently in a normal office environment where noise level is moderate and temperature/humidity is controlled.  Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions.  May be exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold and/or heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives and vibrations.  Noise level on the job site is normally moderate to loud.  Overtime will be required. Travel will be required.
