 Zachry Engineering Corporation (ZEC) is seeking an experienced Senior Project Controls Specialist to join our Charlotte Design Center. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with deep expertise in Primavera P6 scheduling, cost control, and earned value management who enjoys supporting complex engineering projects and guiding project teams toward successful execution.

In this position, you will lead cost and schedule control efforts for assigned projects, working closely with project managers, discipline leads, and stakeholders to ensure accurate forecasting, reporting, and overall project performance.

 

 



Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Develop, maintain, and analyze engineering project schedules using Primavera P6
  • Support project managers in defining scope and project controls requirements
  • Convert scope documents into logically linked, resource-loaded schedules
  • Integrate engineering, procurement, and (when applicable) construction schedules
  • Create and analyze progress curves, manpower histograms, and earned value metrics
  • Monitor schedule and cost performance; prepare regular progress and forecast reports
  • Collect and analyze expended man-hours and support budget forecasting
  • Identify schedule impacts, risks, and contingencies; recommend corrective actions
  • Support schedule and project risk analysis activities
  • Lead or contribute to project meetings and deliver schedule-related presentations
  • Train and mentor junior project controls and planning personnel
  • Ensure accurate change management by assessing schedule and cost impacts


Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience in engineering project controls plus a high school degree 
  • Industry experience in Refining, Chemicals, Power, Renewables, or Food & Beverage
  • Strong background in engineering schedule development and cost analysis
  • Proven experience leading or coordinating project controls efforts on large projects
  • Advanced working knowledge of Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Excel
  • Solid understanding of project management, cost management, estimating, and change control
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to lead meetings, present to stakeholders, and work effectively across teams
  • Dependable, self-directed, and comfortable working independently or collaboratively

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This role is primarily office-based with occasional travel to project or construction sites. Site visits may require mobility, use of PPE, and exposure to moderate-to-high noise levels. The position requires regular communication via in-person meetings, phone, email, and digital collaboration tools.
