Position Title: BAS / Controls Service Technician
Location: Chicago, IL
Schedule: Monday–Friday 
Employment Type: Full-Time


Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Building Automation Systems (BAS) / Controls Technician to support inspection, maintenance, repair, and commissioning of temperature control systems at VA Medical Centers throughout Chicago. This role supports a critical healthcare facility and requires strong troubleshooting skills, BAS programming experience, and strict adherence to VA safety and documentation requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and commissioning of BAS and temperature control systems
  2. Service Electronic/DDC and Electric/Pneumatic (E/P) controls, including:
    1. Relays, switches, pressure transmitters, actuators, dampers, regulators
    2. Sensors, thermostats, control panels, and compressors
  3. Maintain and service Johnson Controls Metasys systems (SCT, CCT, SMP, HVAC PRO, DX9100, GSX9100, MUI) Tridium Niagara, and Niagara Workbench
  4. Work with LON, BACnet, and N2 protocols
  5. Inspect wiring, calibrate sensors, verify control sequences, and document system performance
  6. Provide daily service reports, PM checklists, and system documentation to the COR
  7. Coordinate shutdown requests and after-hours work when required
  8. Support emergency response and after-hours service as directed


Minimum Qualifications

  1. 3+ years of BAS / controls industry experience
    or 5+ years servicing HVAC-related electronic or mechanical systems
  2. Vocational school diploma (4-year program) orAssociate’s degree in:
    1. Electronics
    2. Mechanical Systems
    3. Computer Technology
    4. HVAC or related field
  3. Strong PC skills with the ability to program and configure HVAC/BAS software
  4. Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision


Additional Requirements

  1. Ability to pass VA background check, fingerprinting, and PIV badging
  2. Compliance with VA safety, infection control, and facility policies
  3. No drugs, weapons, or prohibited materials on VA property
  4. Willingness to work occasional after-hours or emergency shifts
