Mission / Summary:
The Controls Technician will report directly to the Maintenance Manager. This position serves as a point position for all facets of day-to-day process control support in an area of the facility. The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities and qualifications:
Job Functions:
Job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Support daily and breakdown maintenance activities, especially those related to troubleshooting of automation and PLC based systems with their associated interfaced systems, displays, and field devices.
- Perform repairs to electrical equipment.
- Support of process control systems after hours.
- Review and create loop sheets and logic documentation for new and existing systems.
- Monitor control system reliability and process variability and take steps to eliminate any shortcomings.
- Optimize systems for yield and efficiencies.
- Lead software upgrades to the plant systems.
- Serve as process control advocate working with operations, internal IT groups, and external vendors.
- Develop and lead preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of hardware, software applications, and infrastructure to ensure a high level of equipment performance, security, and reliability.
- Assess overall system health continually through diagnostics and other system tools.
- Work on software and PLC integration of capital projects.
- Review spare parts to ensure an adequate number of compatible parts are maintained and/or upgraded.
- Develop and documents maintenance/troubleshooting procedures.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- AAS in Electronics, Instrumentation, Automation, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience
- 4+ years’ experience in an industrial maintenance setting preferred.
- Experience with configuration and troubleshooting automation and PLC systems, including their connected displays. Thorough knowledge of automation and PLC concepts and application.
- Sawmill industry experience and experience with high-pressure and low-pressure boilers preferred but not required.
SCHEDULE DEMANDS:
General schedule is an 8-hour, Monday - Friday assignment; however, employees must be willing to work alternate schedules that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends, in order to perform maintenance when the plant is not scheduled to operate.
