Position Summary
This position is responsible for performing duties required in the commissioning, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of distribution protective, regulatory, switching and communication systems associated with the SCADA/ADMS infrastructure. Provide leadership and guidance end-to-end-user support to operators, engineers, and other SCADA users to ensure proper operation of protection relaying schemes and SCADA systems to eliminate or limit damage, prevent the spread of system disturbances, reduce the number and duration of customer outages while ensuring the system remains compliant with CoServ Electric, regulatory, and industry standards.

Primary Position Responsibilities

  • Monitors system operations (power factor, circuit balance, and loading) through SCADA/ADMS on per circuit basis daily.
  • Executes solutions to correct power factor, circuit balance, and loading.
  • Assists with programing, commissioning, trouble shooting, downloading sequence of events and confirming performance parameters, programs, and setups for distribution equipment and controls.
  • Performs distribution automation equipment maintenance cycles based on manufacturers’ recommendations and industry best practices.
  • Conducts equipment inspections on distribution automation equipment.
  • Performs minor in-house repairs on distribution automation equipment.
  • Aids Operations and Dispatch as pertains to distribution automation equipment.
  • Performs testing and commissioning of all new distribution automation related installations.
  • Assists with identifying design and/or operational service issues on distribution automation equipment.
  • Assists with collecting forensic electrical investigations for CoServ distribution automation equipment failures.
  • Performs operation and maintain intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) including but not limited with communication over radio, microwave, and cellular network.
  • Performs real-time system monitoring, control logic testing, and data collection for power quality and reliability analytics.
  • Perform functional checks and field testing on new automation equipment to ensure NERC/FERC or ERCOT compliance standards are met.
  • Maintain accurate field documentation including GIS updates, as-built drawings, and on-line diagrams.
  • Complies with established CoServ safety and operating rules, procedures, and guidelines. Responsible for reporting unsafe practices to a supervisor
  • Complies with established CoServ Information Security Handbook, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Responsible for reporting suspected information security incidents to Tech Support.

Secondary Position Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to CoServ departments, members, contractors, city municipalities, and the public.
  • Receives training and attends educational and safety workshops.
  • Maintains a clean work area to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Logs and reports deficiencies with equipment.

Position Requirements

Education, Experience, and Certifications Required 

  • Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology
    • Combined with Two (2) year direct work-related experience
  • Associate degree in a Technical Discipline (Electronics/Electrical/Mechanical/Engineering Technology)
    • Combined with Two (2) year direct work-related journey-level experience (Lineman/Maintenance Technician/Relay Technician/Trouble Technician/Voltage Technician)
  • In lieu of Associate degree in a Technical Discipline
    • High School Diploma combined with Four (4) years direct work-related journey-level experience (Lineman/Maintenance Technician/Relay Technician/Trouble Technician/Voltage Technician), OR
    • an equivalent combination of Three (3) years Military training and experience (electronics/electrical/engineering) combined with One (1) year direct work-related journey-level experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology
    • Combined with Two (4) year direct work-related experience
  • Associate degree in a Technical Discipline (Electronics/Electrical/Mechanical/Engineering Technology)
    • Combined with Four (4) year direct work-related journey-level experience (Lineman/Maintenance Technician/Relay Technician/Trouble Technician/Voltage Technician)
  • In lieu of Associate degree in a Technical Discipline
    • High School Diploma combined with Six (6) years direct work-related journey-level experience (Lineman/Maintenance Technician/Relay Technician/Trouble Technician/Voltage Technician), OR
    • an equivalent combination of Three (3) years Military training and experience (electronics/electrical/engineering) combined with Two (2) year direct work-related journey-level experience (Lineman/Maintenance Technician/Relay Technician/Trouble Technician/Voltage Technician).

Skills and Abilities Required 

  • Communication skills.
  • Proficient use of computer systems, which include setting up and using hardware and software programs, programming equipment settings, programming DNP for remote operated equipment, entering or processing data.
  • High-level knowledge of AC and DC power systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently under minimal supervision.

Skills and Abilities Preferred

  • Electrical trouble-shooting skills.
  • SCADA and ADMS systems.
  • Proficient use of multi-meters and test equipment.
  • Basic distributed generation

Physical Requirements

  • Operates office equipment such as a computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, etc.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
  • Ability to drive occasionally
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • Works both in the office and outdoors
  • Works in areas with possible exposure to poison oak, poison ivy, and Insect stings.

Other Requirements

  • Must have and maintain a current Texas driver’s license.
  • May be required to work at heights up to and exceeding thirty (30) feet and underground.
  • Requires exposure to extreme conditions and inclement weather.
  • Work may also be performed in a repair/test lab facility.
  • Work involves exposure to high voltage and potentially hazardous facilities and equipment.
